What should you consider when hiring a wedding stylist blog

Your wedding isn’t just another event—it’s a deeply personal, once-in-a-lifetime experience. And the suppliers you choose? They shouldn’t just see you as another booking in their calendar. You deserve people who truly care about your day, who get excited with you, and who treat your wedding with the love and attention it deserves.

To help you find the right fit, here are some things to consider when choosing a wedding stylist that values you, your vision, and your experience.

Style Compatibility

Before you start your search, take a moment to get clear on how you want your wedding to look and feel. Are you drawn to a wild, romantic aesthetic? Do you want something modern and elegant, or soft and bohemian? Check a supplier’s portfolio to see if their style naturally aligns with yours. You don’t want to be forcing a round peg into a square hole—your supplier should instinctively get your vibe.

For example, my style is modern, effortlessly natural, and rooted in sustainability. I work best with couples who care about how their day feels just as much as how it looks—those wild souls who crave authenticity over trends. You can check out my portfolio here.

Wedding Stylist Experience and Expertise

A polished Instagram feed is nice, but it doesn’t tell the full story. Make sure the supplier has real wedding experience—look for testimonials, case studies, and proof of past work at similar venues. If you can’t find reviews or examples, ask for them! A well-established supplier should be able to provide plenty of evidence that they know their stuff.

I have a whole section on my website dedicated to testimonials, past weddings, and even expert advice from my years in the industry. You can read my blogs here.

Customisation Options

Some companies offer off-the-shelf decor packages, while others take a more flexible, personalised approach. If you want your decor to reflect you rather than a copy-paste wedding setup, check if they offer customisation. Can they tweak their designs to fit your theme? Add elements to match your colour scheme? Create something entirely bespoke?

I offer curated decor collections, but everything can be personalised with additional florals or styling elements. And if you’re after something unique, I can source or create custom pieces just for your day.

Sustainability Practices

If having an eco-friendly wedding is important to you, make sure your decor company aligns with your values. Are they using sustainable materials? Do they prioritise reusable decor over wasteful, single-use items?

Sustainability is at the heart of everything I do. I use high-quality artificial and preserved florals, and I keep travel miles low by taking on a limited number of bookings. Every piece I offer is designed to be reused, repurposed, and loved for years to come.

Setup and Take-Down Logistics

Your wedding day will go by in a beautiful blur, so the last thing you need is to worry about setting up decor. Make sure your supplier has a clear plan for setup and takedown—and ask about additional costs for room changeovers if needed.

Budget and Pricing Structure

Let’s be real—Pinterest is amazing for inspiration, but it doesn’t always align with real-world budgets. Be open to adjusting your expectations or shifting your budget to get the look you really want. And always check for extra costs like travel fees, setup, and collection charges so there are no surprises later.

My pricing is completely transparent. Travel is included within a set radius, and my minimum spend is £400, though most of my clients invest around £1,000 to achieve their vision.

Communication and Customer Service

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard couples say they booked a supplier and then didn’t hear a peep from them for months, leaving them stressed and unsure if everything was still on track. You deserve better than that.

After booking with me, I do check-ins at 6 months and 3 months before your wedding, plus a final one 2 weeks before your day. And if you ever need anything in between? You can always message me, and I’ll get back to you within 48 hours.

Availability

Wedding suppliers book up fast—especially during peak season. If you have your heart set on someone, don’t wait too long to reach out. My couples usually book me 12-18 months in advance, so I always recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later.

Previous Work at Your Venue

It’s a big bonus if your decor supplier has worked at your venue before. They’ll already know the best spots for key decor pieces, any restrictions they need to work around, and how to make the space shine.

I’ve worked at nearly 150 venues across the North East, and I keep my Pinterest boards updated with real weddings and venue inspiration. Check them out here.

Trust Your Gut

At the end of the day, choosing a wedding stylist isn’t just about style and budget—it’s about energy. You should feel confident, excited, and completely at ease with whoever you choose. If something doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct.

Your wedding is a reflection of you. Make sure every supplier you book sees that and treats your day with the care it deserves.
