Unveiling the Hidden Costs of Wedding Prop Hire (And Why I Don’t Do Hidden Fees!)

Unveiling the Hidden Costs of Wedding Prop Hire (And Why I Don’t Do Hidden Fees!)

Let’s talk about what can be the less magical side to weddings: costs. Specifically, the hidden ones that some wedding suppliers don’t always shout about. If you’ve ever been surprised by an unexpected charge, you know exactly what I’m talking about. But don't worry—when it comes to my wedding decor hire, everything’s out in the open. Heres some of the hidden costs when it comes to wedding prop hire that others might not mention upfront (but I always do):

Mileage Fees – How Far Are We Going?

The increase in fuel prices has been something us wedding suppliers have had to take on the chin. For my service, mileage is included in the cost of hire for up to 15 miles. Book my top-tier Signature Package, and you’ll get 40 miles covered in the cost. Any further than that, and there’s a charge of 45p per mile, which covers two return trips (I come to set up the decor and come back the next day to collect it—because who wants to deal with taking down decor the morning after their big day?). It’s all pretty straightforward, and you won’t get a surprise bill for my petrol as it's included on your initial quote.

Room Changeover Fee – Ceremony to Reception Magic

Planning to have your ceremony and reception in the same space? Or using the same decor for both? Well, this is where a room changeover comes into play. After you say “I do,” the room needs to be transformed for your wedding breakfast. This changeover fee depends on how long I need to wait between setups and how much decor there is to move or tweak. The good news is I let you know upfront what this is going to cost, so you don’t have to worry about a last-minute charge.

Extra Flowers – Go Green or Go Floral?

I primarily use gorgeous green foliage for my decor, which works well for most themes. But if you want to add a pop of colour, extra flowers can make the decor truly personal to your day. Whether you want artificial blooms or dried/preserved flowers (which are great for sustainability), I can source those for you. The cost varies depending on what flowers you choose and how many, but if you’ve gone for my Signature Package, you get a flat rate of £100 for the lot. Simple, right?

Other “Extra” Costs to Keep in Mind When Hiring Decor Suppliers

Now that you know about my fully transparent costs, what other fees should you be aware of when hiring someone to dress your wedding? Here are a few common ones that could pop up with other suppliers:

  1. Damage Deposits – Some suppliers might ask for a damage deposit, just in case any of the decor doesn’t make it through the night unscathed.

  2. Late-Night Fees – If your wedding runs late and the venue requests that a supplier has to return at an unusual hour to pack up, you might see a late-night fee. Always check if this is something your supplier charges for! I don't charge for this, as a night owl I'm happy to return after midnight to clear away your decor if this is what's required.

  3. Summer or Holiday Surcharges – Some suppliers show their 'starting from' prices which they bump up for peak Summer dates, or may add a surcharge bank holidays, but personally, I don’t.

Unfortunately I've met some suppliers who have bragged about hiking up their prices when they feel a client is prepared to pay it, I pride myself on being upfront and clear about all costs from the get-go. I have a brochure you can request which includes set prices for my individual items or packages. The only additions you'll see from me is my mileage, room changeover, and extra florals, which will all be discussed in our consultation. That way, you can focus on what matters most—celebrating your big day, stress-free!
